Territory Day Community Event Grants

1 July will mark the 40th anniversary of the Northern Territory being granted Self-Government in 1978, under the Northern Territory (Self-Government) Act 1978.

Territory Day celebrates everything we love about living in the Territory – the people, the landscape, the culture and our diverse communities. We encourage everyone to get involved, as it’s an important milestone in our history and forms part of the discussion for the future.

This year we’re offering grants of between $1,000 and $5,000 to help Territorians celebrate Territory Day, their way.

Any event or activity that celebrates living in the Territory, our history, our future, culture or community between 14 May and 3 September could be eligible. Grants are available for activities such as festivals, exhibitions, multicultural events, educational activities, community events and sporting or remote events.

Grant applications open from 9 February – 9 March 2018 and can be submitted online.  Applicants will be notified of the outcome of their funding application by 9 April.

These grants will NOT fund:

Funding is competitive, so there are no guarantees that all applicants will be successful. If you are successful in your application for funding, you will be expected to enter into an agreement with FestivalsNT, which specifies how funding will be spent. FestivalsNT reserves the right to request more information as and when it is required. Organisations are welcome to submit more than one application, providing the projects are not the same.

Organisations who receive funding will be required to acquit their funding (compile a short report confirming number of event participants, explaining how funding was spent etc.). Successful applicants will also be required to acknowledge the support provided through the provision of the grant.

Events will be promoted as part of the Territory Day (1 July) events.

Grants will be assessed by the Major Events Working Group, with recommendations provided to the Minister for Tourism and Culture for approval. Assessment will be conducted based on the following criteria:

  1. the degree to which the proposed event/activity meets the stated aims of the 2018 Territory Day Grants (Recognise the NT’s History and Governance, Recognise Territorians, Celebrate success and resilience, Foster a strong sense of community, Create a dialogue about the future of the NT)
  2. the reach of the activity/event (including the total number of people to be engaged, and whether the event engages new audiences in Territory Day celebrations)
  3. the ability of the organisation to successfully carry out the event

We encourage you to contact FestivalsNT to discuss your application before it is submitted. Email festivals.nt@nt.gov.au or phone 08 8999 6286 during business hours.
