Our Territory, Our Day
Territory Day recognises the day the Northern Territory gained power, from the Commonwealth Government, to self-govern in 1978. Every year on 1 July, Territorians come together to officially celebrate everything we love about the amazing place we call home.

2025 Postcards from the Territory Competition Highlights:
We were truly moved by the amazing entries to our "Postcards from the Territory" competition! Below are just a few of our favourite entries which remind us how lucky we are to call this place home.
Pita Tagicakiverata - This photo was taken on the East MacDonnell Ranges during sunset, perfectly capturing the iconic Red Glows of the Red Centre during Sunsets. This photo is special to me as it was the first photo I took of a sunset in Alice Springs, and it began a journey for me of taking photos and capturing moments in time.
Hayley Bannister - This is the boxing croc at Humpty Doo taken on 35mm film. I took it because it represents the quirky nature of the NT. As a Brit I feel like the NT represents everything that made me fall in love with Australia. The incredible wildlife the vast landscapes the heat and the quirky characters that reside in the territory.
Naomi Hill - I visit Nightcliff often, and this shot of the jetty captures everything I love about the Northern Territory. It’s my home, and it's visually magnificent. Every evening in the Top End brings a sky worth pausing for. In the wet season, storms roll in with power and beauty. Nowhere compares.
Cherie Sharples - This photo was taken by me last weekend on our getaway to Bitter Springs, Mataranka. The Territory is special to me because I grew up here, left for 13 years and have now returned with children to share all these special places with. It's the red earth that grounds you and the water ways that take you down stream into another world.
